Kinneret Serving Bowl

There is a moment I know well: as I approach the Arbel Valley, suddenly the landscape opens before me. The valley and the beautiful Kinneret come into view - and every time, it takes my breath away.

When I began thinking about the Kinneret Collection, I felt that it was impossible to look at this landscape, to create from it and tell its story, without sharing one of the most beautiful and hopeful teachings I know.

The Jerusalem Talmud tells of Rabbi Hiyya the Great and Rabbi Shimon ben Halafta walking through the Arbel Valley in the early morning. They watched the first light of dawn begin to break.

Rabbi Hiyya said:

“So is the redemption of Israel: at first, little by little; and as it continues, it grows greater and greater.”

There is something in the shape of a bowl that reminds me of a valley. And so, when I create the Kinneret Bowls - the layers of earth, the turquoise of the water, and the open shape of the vessel - the Arbel Valley and this teaching are with me.

A small reminder in the home of the landscape of the Arbel Valley, of the light rising over the Kinneret, and of hope that continues to grow - little by little.
